L'apothiquaire at Sofitel Dalat Palace

For a cool respite from the heat and hustle of HCMC, travellers head to a mountain retreat called Dalat where the temperature hovers around 18-degree celsius all year round. Homesick French colonialists got the idea way back in 1893, when they came across this remote village in the highlands and decided to turn it into le petit Paris, so that they can chill out and make-believe they are back home during spring. And thanks to the French, the Dalat landscape today is one of rolling hills, pine trees, French villas and gardens.

The 87-year-old Sofitel Dalat Palace takes centre stage in the grand scheme of things, sitting on a hillock overlooking the city's main lake. The golf course is right at its doorsteps and the city centre is a few minutes' stroll away. Up in the hotel attic, you will find L'Apothiquaire Day Spa which incorporates herbal remedies into treatments for face and body. They even have the Chocolate Fango Wrap which begins with a salt-scrub followed by an application of warm, freshly-melted chocolate mud. The treatment is not just to get you feeling fresh, amorous and delicious but to tone your skin and reduce cellulite. What were you thinking?

Update: The hotel has since reverted to local ownership and no longer managed by Sofitel. | www.dalatpalace.vn
