Head just 150km north of HCMC and you will arrive in the sleepy coastal town of Phan Thiet. From there, it's another 30 minutes' ride to Ke Ga Bay where Princess d'Annam Resort & Spa is located. Admittedly, its takes some effort to get there but you will be rewarded with a quiet and exclusive sanctuary away from the tourist trail. Princess d'Annam, inspired by French colonial architecture and named after a 13th century princess, is an all-villa luxury resort spread across a vast 45-acre land facing the South China Sea. Their 57 villas come in three variations and their medium- and large-size villas even have private pools and al fresco bathrooms complete with rain showers and sunken tubs.

The spa takes prime position in a standalone building with 10 treatment rooms, two of which are couple suites with ocean view. Needless to say, if you wish to impress your other half, book a session just before sunset for a dramatic experience. On the menu are Princess d'Annam's royal spa treatments ranging from synchronised massages and hot stone therapy to gentle herbal detoxification treatments and anti-ageing facials.

If you feel you're getting too much of sun, sea and spa, you can always head off to the nearby mountain to pay homage to the sleeping Buddha, all 49 metres of him, reputedly the largest in Vietnam. The path to enlightenment is made easier with the cable-car. | www.princessannam.com
