Tourists come to Hue in central Vietnam to re-live the glorious days of old when emperors rule the country. Today, what remains are royal palaces, tombs and mausoleums scattered across this former Imperial City. Located along the banks of the famed Perfume River which cuts across the city, is La Residence Hotel & Spa, an architectural tribute to the art deco age popular in the 1920s. The atmosphere is typically French but without the airs. Their bubbly general manager, *Carmen Marienberg, is always up and about to see to it that you're having a great time here.
Located on the left wing of the hotel is Le Spa, which has been offering honey and milk baths as well as massages in all forms to weary travellers after a hard day visiting the historical sights around town. New on the spa menu are creatively-named "Perfume River Mud Bath" and "Romancing the Perfume River" treatments, among others. Hot stone is also a new addition but it's the massages and Monticelli Mud Wrap that's most often asked for, according to Marienberg. Recently the spa has also extended outdoors where you can have your limbs contorted on four-pillar Thai massage beds by Thai-trained therapists. Products used are mainly Comfort Zone but you can also ask for juicy local favourites like papaya, mango, aloe vera or Vietnamese coffee to be rubbed on. | www.la-residence-hue.com
*Marienberg has since left the hotel.
