Lounge on the upper deck of AviSpa.
If you are a beach person and your idea of wellness is sipping cocktail by the ocean and watching the sun set, you’re in luck. About 1.5 hours south-west of the city, is the coastal town of Port Dickson where Avillion Port Dickson is. The resort prides itself as the only one in town offering water villas built right into the sea – when you take a shower in your villa, you can actually see the tide coming in.

Right at the far edge of the resort is AviSpa, housed in a unique architecture which stands in stark contrast to the timbered villas and creaky boardwalks. The stand-alone spa building, built above water, is a new addition to the resort. The design is modern contemporary with lots of glass panels and a fitting marine theme using white, blue and turquoise. On the upper deck is an adults-only circular spa lounge where one can have cocktails with infinity ocean view. Spa treatments are Peranakan-inspired (Peranakan is a mix of Chinese and Malay traditions) using ingredients from the ocean such as seawater and marine algae which are rich in anti-oxidants. The Nyonya pomelo scrub (a mix of citrus pomelo and ginger) followed by the Peranakan tuina is often recommended. Tuina focusses on your acupressure points and hastens blood flows so that your qi can be restored. The longest session is their aVi wellness ritual that stretches to 3.5 hours. | www.avillionportdickson.com; ww.avispa.com.my

AviSpa at dusk.
Pros:
- Can enjoy cocktails whiles watching the sun set at the upper deck of AviSpa
- Four-poster bed and a lounge bed beside the window that opens out to the sea
- Semi-open bathroom with rainshower, can look up to the sky or look down at the tide coming in while showering
- Sound of the waves at night
- Stand-alone spa building with modern contemporary interiors

Cons:
- Creaky timber walkways and the wooden villas in need of sprucing up
- No privacy as most of the villas look out to each other unless you get the premium corner-units facing out to sea
- Only a few in-room cable channels
- Check-in/out slow when there is a crowd
- Wi-fi available but very slow speed and some of the villas are out of coverage
- Limited carpark, when the resort carpark is full you have to park across the road
- Limited in-room stationeries (only 1 pen?)
